| Pilot Plan, Thetford Mines, Quebec : The construction of the Pilot Plan is essentially completed. The physical treatment section is now operational and as allowed the upgrading of then starting ore from about 0.23% nickel, up to more than 0.5%. | Guatemala Property – Option Agreement with CVRD : Nichromet Guatemala, S.A. (100% owned by Nichromet Extraction Inc. of Canada) has applied for eight separate exploration permits covering an area of 3,000 km² within the three most prospective complexes in Guatemala, representing by far the largest land position in Guatemala. | Cuba, Cajalbana : A letter of intent is currently being prepared, which will provide with the acquisition of the Cajalbana nickel deposit on a stage basis. |
Demonstration Plants
The Company has obtained patents for the extraction of nickel and magnesium from laterites in Guatemala and Cuba.
OXIDE CIRCUIT PILOT PLANT : The Company is currently building a 24 ton a day oxide plant in order to establish the viability processing of the Thetford Mines tailings and bulk samples from laterite deposits in Cuba, Guatemala and elsewhere.
SULFIDE CIRCUIT PILOT PLANT : The Nichromet sulfide technology lends itself to the treatment of copper and zinc concentrates, or any sulfide concentrate. Nichromet Extraction will build a hydro metallurgical plant located in a port in Québec, near Montréal, with a capacity of initially treating 20,000 tonnes of concentrate a year for a capital cost of US$8.1 million. Recoveries of various copper and zinc concentrates, on a lab scale, have exceeded 97%.
